’Tis the season for UNHATE, another well executed and provocative campaign from Benneton (and Fabrica), created to oppose and undermine hate culture, the Unhate Foundation will engage in the development of campaigns aimed at exorcising the “fear of the other”. Apparently many of those featured weren’t too pleased and the Italian firm withdrew the image featuring Pope Benedict XVI kissing a senior Egyptian imam on the lips after the Vatican denounced it as an unacceptable provocation. So much for love, acceptance and tolerance. If I’m not mistaken, wasn’t it Jesus that said, “Love thy enemy”?

I Waited A Long Time For You is an exhibit featuring over one hundred beautiful, engaging (as well as very affordable) drawings by Seattle based artist Mugi Takei showing at Seattle’s Cullom Gallery. Tonight (Thursday, March 24, at 7 pm) in partnership with Seattle’s 2nd Annual Small Press Festival, Cullom Gallery hosts a reading, Natural Verges: Poets on Visual Art, which will feature poetry and prose by Mugi Takei, Meredith Clark (known for her Ballard Farmer’s Market Poem Store), Debra di Blasi (Publisher-in-Chief of Seattle’s Jaded Ibis), and Lisa Radon (whose writings and reviews on the nexus of visual art and writing appear at lisaradon.com). This event is one of several in the month-long, 2nd Annual Small Press Festival, organized by Seattle’s Pilot Books owner, Summer Robinson.
